The American Conference for Irish Studies awards the annual Donald E. Jordan, Jr. – Willard C. Potts, Jr. Award for Emerging Scholar which recognizes exceptional work by emerging scholars in Irish Studies. In the 2019 West session in Portland, I was awarded the prize for my presentation “‘…imagine!…what position she was in!…’: Audience Complicity in Suppressing the Female Form in Samuel Beckett’s Not I“.

Hosted by the School of Irish Studies, ti spent nine months examining how gramophones became gendered as female in Irish literature. Specifically, I examined the connections between the feminist movement in Ireland and the gramophone’s gendered implications in Irish literature between 1890 and 1930.
